July 2, 2024

L.A.B., formed in 2016 in Whakatāne, New Zealand, is a genre-defying band that seamlessly blends reggae, electronic, blues, funk, and rock to create a sound uniquely their own. The band was founded by Brad Kora (drums, vocals) and Stu Kora (guitar, keys), both formerly of the band Kora, and quickly engaged the extraordinary talents of Joel Shadbolt (lead vocals, guitar), Ara Adams-Tamatea (bass) from Katchafire, and Miharo Gregory (keys). Since their inception, L.A.B. has rapidly become a staple in the New Zealand music scene, performing at major festivals like Rhythm and Vines, WOMAD, and the Byron Bay Bluesfest. Their relentless energy and eclectic sound have led to multiple sold-out headline tours in both New Zealand and Australia. The band’s discography showcases their prolific nature, with six albums released in just over five years. Their debut self-titled album, released in 2017, went straight to number one on the iTunes Album Charts and has been certified Platinum. Subsequent albums, including "L.A.B. II," "L.A.B. III," "L.A.B. IV," "L.A.B. V," and "L.A.B. VI," have all received critical acclaim and commercial success, with multiple tracks reaching platinum status. L.A.B.’s hit singles "In The Air" and "Why Oh Why" have both topped the charts, becoming modern anthems in New Zealand. Their live performances are known for their high energy and captivating presence, with sold-out shows across Australia, New Zealand, and their first U.S. tour, including a performance at the iconic California Roots Festival. The band continues to push boundaries and grow their global fanbase.
